- 5 Jul 2014 6:55 AM
The Budapest 7s is an international 7s Rugby tournament, welcoming 12 teams coming from 8 different countries from all over Europe. 26 games are planned on that 1 day tournament.
7s Rugby is the olympic form of Rugby, and will be present during the next Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro. This version of Rugby is quick, intense and spectacular.. it is a real show!! No time to get bored during a game, and surprises are always possible!! But the most important in 7s is that the show is also off the pitch, with always a great spirit from all the teams, and a fun spirit which is always alive!!
This day is a perfect opportunity to discover that new olympic sport, especially that some high level teams will be present:
- Potsdam: German team playing in 1st division there, they finished 2nd of the 1st edition. They have only one idea now... win the tournament!
- Belgium Barbarians: A selection of some of the best belgium players. Considering that Belgium is one of the best 7s nation in Europe, that team is definitely seen as the favorite of the tournament.
- BABA CO: A bunch of friends coming from France and all playing at high level in France, one of the top level country in the worl of Rugby. The other favorite with the Belgium Barbarians.
- Hungarian national team: They just won the European Division B championship in Greece, and they still can get qualified for the Olympic games in Rio. They will take advantage of that high level tournament to continue to improve and give playing time to some young and promising players
- Budapest Frogs: The current Hungarian 7s rugby champion, made of some Hungarian international players and some players coming from all over Europe. A major challenger for the final title.
- London Haiwaiians RFC: A brand new club created in London by several good level Rugby players. They picked the Budapest 7s for their 1st appearance and are ready to give some show on and off the pitch.
- Invitational Anatolia 7s: we even have guest form Turkey this year!! Team composed from a selection of the best Turkish players, they could be the big surprise of the tournament!!
We don't forget La meute (France), Lokomotiva Zagreb (Croatia), Donau Vienna (Austrian 7s rugby champion), Hatfield s (England) and obviously the Budapest Exiles host of the tournament, that will all participate in that big show on and off the pitch, and all have the 1st place as a target!!
