Charges Raised Against Leaders Of Paramilitary -Style Org In South Hungary
Leaders of a paramilitary-style outfit have broken the law by abusing freedom of association, a local prosecutor in south Hungary said today. The organisation calling itself the New Hungarian Guard is identical to the Hungarian Guard which a court outlawed in 2009, according to the prosecutor of Bács-Kiskun County, who has raised charges against two self-styled leaders of the organisation that calls itself a “movement”.

László Nánási told MTI that the leader and his deputy had held their posts since March 2, 2013 and had attended an initiation ceremony for new recruits in the village of Akasztó on August 19, 2013.

The leader, a 49 year-old man from Vaskút, ran in the general election in April this year but failed to win a mandate and so has no right to immunity, the statement said.

If found guilty, they can each receive a prison sentence of up to three years. The Hungarian Guard was dissolved by a Budapest court on July 2, 2009. Since then, the registration of the New Hungarian Guard has been rejected, Nánási said.
