Romania Rejects Hungary Request For Two Consulates
Romania has rejected the application Hungary submitted last April to open two consular offices in the Romanian cities of Oradea (Nagyvárad) and Targu Mures (Marosvásárhely), the foreign ministry’s spokeswoman told MTI on Thursday.

The move is “incomprehensible”, as the Romanian side has not provided any substantive explanation for the decision and Hungary has never rejected a similar request by a foreign country, said Anna Nagy.

She said the decision went against European practices. Hungary is rather disappointed because Titus Corlatean, the Romanian foreign minister, spoke in a highly positive tone about further developing Hungarian-Romanian relations after the formation of the new Hungarian government.

Hungary operates consulates at the country’s embassy in Bucharest and in Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda) and Cluj (Kolozsvár).
