Satirical Political Party Finally Approved In Hungary
The court registered the satirical Two-Tailed Dog Party (MKKP) shortly before the deadline to register candidates in the local elections, the party announced yesterday.

The case does not present Hungarian democracy in a sunny light, party president Gerg Kovács said.

More jokingly, he remarked that the registration had com at a lucky time, as “we still have 16 minutes to collect signatures”.

The Capital Court had earlier rejected the party’s request to be officially registered, on the basis that neither the name nor the goals of the party were serious.

The MKKP appealed against this ruling but the court rejected it again, insisting that the name of the party is harmful to morality and has dishonourable associations.

The Kúria overruled these decisions yesterday.
