Hungarian School Segregated Roma For Years
The Capital Court of Appeal has reprimanded the state school administrative body KLIK and the Gyöngyöspata local council after finding that Roma children were segregated in the town’s primary school from 2004 to September, 2012.

The judge found that Roma pupils received education at a lower quality than their non-Roma peers, which constitutes disadvantageous discrimination, thereby violating the law on equal treatment.

The Chance for Disadvantageous Children Foundation, which brought the case to court, said the school had ignored a 2011 call from minorities ombudsman Ern Kállai to halt the segregation.
