Illegal Cigarette Sales In Hungary Top 12%
The black market for cigarettes in Hungary has grown to 12.1% of total sales, market research company GfK Hungária said. A little more than a year ago, GfK Hungária said illegal sales of cigarettes accounted for 7.7% of total turnover. In its latest release, the market researcher said the rate had reached 11.8% by the end of last year, but noted there had been “restructuring” on the market.

Hungary introduced a state monopoly on retail tobacco sales in July of last year, sharply reducing the number of places smokers can buy their cigarettes. A guaranteed margin for retailers also lifted cigarette prices.
