The 13-member body submitted an amendment proposal in October which highlighted that central budget support for ethnic minorities had not changed for a decade.
It asked for institutions operated by the ethnic minority councils to get central funding for the self-financed part of projects carried out from money received through tenders. The total amount available through tender for organising student camps to nurture the mother tongue by the 13 ethnic minorities will increase from 40 million forints to 100 million forints next year.
The amount available for the operation of national minority councils and their institutions will increase by 666 million forints, local minority councils will have access to twice as much money as this year, and the allocation for project-based support will increase by 25%, the statement added.
