Heti Válasz Says Hungary’s Fidesz Has Lost Its Way
In his editorial in weekly Heti Válasz, editor Gábor Borókai suggests that the government return to its original goals announced in 1998, namely to build a western-oriented, strong, sovereign and polgári Hungary.

Borókai, spokesman for the Orbán cabinet of 1998-2002, said the comments made by Simicska last week indicate that a tectonic shift has started on the right with an outcome that cannot be predicted.

After the successful management of the crisis that erupted in 2008, the great goals keeping the right wing together have disappeared, he said.

He asserted that a lack of strategy has brought tactics to the forefront, and fighting for common goals has been replaced by fighting for self-interest.

Viktor Orbán has been preoccupied with international grand politics, and there is no-one in Fidesz who can replace him in domestic matters, Borókai wrote.

Explaining Simicska’s outburst, Borókai said the publisher’s reaction to the advertising tax was similar to other people’s reactions to the ill-considered announcements of the internet tax, new road tolls or compulsory drug tests for minors.
