Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai is among the ten nominees for the 2015 Man Booker Prize. This year, the jury selected writers from ten countries – authors from Hungary, Libya (Ibrahim al-Koni), Mozambique (Mia Couto), Guadeloupe (Maryse Condé), South Afrika (Marlene van Niekerk) and the Republic of the Congo (Alain Mabanckou) are among the select ten top literary figures for the first time.

The list also includes an Argentinian (César Aira), a Lebanese (Hoda Barakat), an Indian (Amitav Ghosh and a U. S. (Fanny Howe) author, all of whom have been shortlisted for the International Man Booker Prize for the first time.

The list of nominees was announced at a press conference at Cape Town University yesterday.

The International Man Booker Prize is awarded every two years to a living author who either writes in English or whose works are generally avaiulable in the language. The award, founded in 2005, is presented to authors on the basis of their entire work. Previous recipients of the prize include Americans Lydia Davis and Philip Roth, Canadian Alice Munro, Nigerian Chinua Achebe and Albanian writer, poet and essayist Ismail Kadare.

This year’s winner will be announced on 19 May at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
