Unprecedented Success For Hungarian Wine At International Competition
- 5 Mar 2015 5:00 AM
Hungarian wines fared extraordinarily well at the event, with “Görögszó”, a 2011 wine bottled by the Szekszárd family winery of Hungarian Tamás Dúzsi winning first place among red wines. No Hungarian wine has ever achieved a comparable result at a global competition.
The twenty-first Vinalies Internationales saw 21 professional juries giving their verdict on wines produced in 40 different countries around the world. 1938 out of the total of 3575 wines nominated were from outside France.
Of the 65 wines nominated by Hungary, nine won a gold medal (13.8%) and 11 a silver medal (16.9%), which further enhance the country’s performance at the world-class event.
65-year-old Mr. Dúzsi was named Hungarian vintner of the year in 2014.
