Cocaine Kayakers Thrown Off Hungarian Team
- 5 May 2015 9:00 AM
Pest county police have contacted the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Federation regarding the two athletes who were suspended after tests revealed that they had taken cocaine. The Federation yesterday decided to throw the two, five-time world champion Tamara Csipes and Bence Dombvári, off the national team.
The two acknowledged the decision, the Federation said in a statement.
Toxicologist Gábor Zacher told Népszava that the whole case is strange, as no athlete uses cocaine as a performance-enhancing substance, as it is banned and can easily be detected.
However, he said, it is conceivable that they tried the drug for fun.
