Wild Boar Adapt To Urban Living In Hungary
- 6 May 2015 9:00 AM
This January, two wild boar on the rampage in Central Budapest were widely reported of in the media, but the animals appear increasingly often in inhabited areas in the Danube Bend, the Lake Balaton area and also in larger towns in northern Hungary.
The situation is also similar in Berlin and Barcelona, where the animals have become completely accustomed to urban lifestyle.
The report claims that wild boar have now found new areas to live permanently in cities, such as smaller forests within city boundaries, abandoned plots or even public parks and points out that the situation could be solved by a national urban wildlife management plan.
This would include a ban on feeding the animals, eliminating illegal waste dumps and fencing off and attending to gardens and areas with fruit trees.
