Hungarian Christian Democrat: Europe Unable To Tackle Migration Problem
European Union leaders have shown themselves incapable of tackling migration issues, the “challenge of the century”, Péter Harrach, group leader of the co-ruling Christian Democrats, told a press conference. Harrach rejected the “liberal and radical” position under which immigrants should be provided “unlimited” entry. He advocated an approach of “two-way responsibility”: the persecuted should be helped but “European nations must have efficient self-protection.”

“Lacking a European solution, we are forced to find a national one,” Harrach said, referring to the construction of Hungary’s a fence along its border with Serbia. He added, however, that no European nation should stay away from efforts to help refugees.
