Hungarian Villagers Resist Plans For Refugee Camps
Residents of Martonfa resisted government plans to build a refugee camp near their Baranya county village by erecting tents and occupying the space. Police checked their papers on Monday afternoon then returned in the evening and warned them that they were trespassing, after which they left.

Protesters also threatened to lie down in front of construction vehicles if the government sticks to its plan to build a camp on the former military shooting range.

Fidesz MP János Hargitai talked to the activists and to mayor András Bosnyák, who is close to Jobbik, and invited them to Budapest for negotiations.

They are concerned that their village of 200 residents will be overwhelmed by migrants.

The cabinet has declared construction of refugee camps at Mártonfa and at Sormás in Zala county a priority project for the economy.
