Hungarian Deportation Orders Unenforceable
Verdicts ordering the deportation of refugees found guilty of entering Hungary from Serbia illegally cannot be enforced, Népszabadság observes, as Serbia refuses to take them back. To date, criminal proceedings have been launched against fewer than 250 people. A strange situation has evolved on the southern borders, Népszabadság adds, as refugees arriving from Serbia will be expelled from Hungary for one or two years, whereas refugees arriving across the Croatian border can walk across to Austria comfortably.

On Saturday more than 8,000 migrants arrived at the Austrian border by train from Gyékényes and Zákány.

Hungarian Helsinki Committee official Gábor Gyõzõ said it is sheer luck that only a small fraction of the illegal entrants are brought to trial.

Human Rights Watch people and the UN High Commissioners Office for Refugees say Serbia is not a safe third country, which remains true even if a Hungarian government decree says otherwise, Gyõzõ added.
