Szijjártó Rejects Croatian PM’s Criticism Of Hungary Migration Policy
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó dismissed remarks by the Croatian prime minister, who said that Hungary had allowed migrants to travel through the country freely for a whole year without registering them. Zoran Milanovic, the Croatian premier, in an interview criticised Hungarian leaders for their “inflexible” attitude. He also said: “It seems nobody from the west will talk to [prime minister] Viktor Orbán”.

In response, Szijjártó said that the Croatian leader “has failed his first real European test and even his lies will not hide that fact”. The minister said that Hungary had received over 220,000 migrants this year.

The vast majority receive care and have been registered, he said. Croatia, on the other hand, deliberately breaks European rules and has declared that it cannot protect the EU’s external borders, Szijjártó said.

Croatia is transporting thousands of migrants to Hungary rather than registering them and providing support, the minister added.
