Israeli Embassy In Hungary Condemns Szentgotthárd Mayor’s Remarks On Paris Attacks
The Israeli embassy has condemned remarks by the mayor of Szentgotthárd, in western Hungary, claiming that Israel was behind the recent Paris terrorist attacks. Gábor Huszár’s remarks “have repeatedly shown that there are still people who have not learnt from history and continue to promote conspiracy theories and negative views about the Jewish state, Israel, and the Jews,” the embassy said.

It is regrettable that “a public personality, the Fidesz mayor of Szentgotthárd ... has come forward with such untrue and ridiculous statements,” the embassy said. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, and its people have been victims of thousands of terrorist attacks.

The mayor has confused the attacker and the victims, it added.

Commenting on Huszár’s remarks suggesting that “certain business circles” and the Jewish state stood behind the Paris terror attacks, Kósa said that the mayor had “expressed his personal opinion” which has nothing to do with Fidesz’s official position.

Kósa reiterated that Fidesz condemns all forms of terrorism.
