Migratory Pressure On Europe & Hungary Could Increase Further In 2016
Speaking on the public television channel M1 on Saturday, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said that “there is nothing to indicate that the number of illegal migrants will decrease this year, and in fact they could arrive in Europe in even greater numbers in the spring”.

According to Mr. Bakondi, it is worrying that in addition to the permanent nature of migration pressure, some in the European Union have also proposed the idea of bringing asylum seekers to Europe directly from Turkey or Syria.

“The Government of Hungary does not support either version; it is our firm belief that we must protect the European Union’s external borders and that the external controls that are required to guarantee security must be performed there”, he stressed.

“We must do everything possible to enable migrants to return home and to resolve the situation in their countries of origin”, he added.

At a Thursday press conference, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár also said at a press conference that “migration pressure on Hungary with relation to illegal immigration will increase this year”. Mr. Lázár stressed that we must stand up against Brussels with regard to the “forced settlement quota”, and we must also be prepared for the fact that the continent’s security situation is unlikely to improve within the upcoming decades because of illegal immigration.

Migration pressure on the country could begin increasing again in the spring, and accordingly we must prepare for the construction of another border security fence along the Romanian border, Mr. Lázár said, adding that Hungary is in continuous consultation with allied neighbouring countries, including Romania, just as the EU needs to maintain constant dialogue with Turkey.
