Refugees To Stand Trial This Week
Kecskemét prosecutors will put on trial in a fast track procedure 15 refugees who were involved in a disturbance at a detention centre in Kiskunhalas on January 15. The incident started when two Iraqis began fighting over access to the internet and armed security guards moved to separate them. One of the men then began to scuffle with arriving police.

A larger group of inmates shook and kicked the fence in response to police measures, and threw stones at police. Eventually, the Emergency Police put an end to the disturbance.

The defendants are charged with carrying out violent acts and other crimes against officials in a group.

Over 1,000 people convicted for climbing fence

A total of 1,052 guilty verdicts have been issued for illegal crossing of the border fence as the number of migrants found guilty rose above 1,000 last week, Index reports.

The Szeged Court has expelled 665 people from Hungary for one year and 361 for two years. Three others were banned for three years, one for five years and 17 cases were suspended.

Unauthorised border crossing has been a criminal offence in Hungary since September 15.
