Mr. Bakondi stressed that the Government is taking the threat seriously: the information is being analysed and assessed, as with all other information concerning homeland security.
He also noted that Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér has convened a meeting of the five parliamentary parties to discuss the anti-terrorism action plan. Mr. Bakondi has asked opposition parties to “distance themselves from daily politics” in order to support these important proposals aimed at ensuring the safety of Hungary’s citizens and to jointly seek solutions.
He pointed out that currently terror alert Level 3 (intermediate) is in place in Hungary. Hungarian authorities are doing everything possible to act against emerging terrorism in a timely and effective manner, he added.
Mr. Bakondi said that Belgian analyses show that the majority of the members of the terrorist cell which committed the terrorist attacks in Brussels and Paris returned to Western Europe “using the opportunity provided by illegal mass migration to cross Europe in an unsupervised manner”.
In response to a question, the Chief Security Advisor said that the Cabinet is not planning to increase the terror alert because of the threat issued by the Islamic State.
