Parents, Pupils Stay Away From School
Tens of thousands of parents kept their children from school on Monday to show support for teachers’ efforts to have the education system reformed.

Masses of pupils stayed away from school to express – together with their parents – solidarity with protesting teachers.

No exact data is known, but one organiser spoke of 50,000 pupils staying away from classes, Népszabadság writes. Other estimates suggested 200,000.

That 50,000 number is less than 4% of the overall total of 1.3 million pupils, Magyar Idõk observes.

Organisers said the participation level exceeded expectations, as 34,000 people had indicated on Facebook that they would join the protest.
