Goalkeeper Gábor Király Retires From National Team At Age 40

Goalkeeper Gábor Király, aged 40, announced on his website that he is retiring from Hungary’s national eleven after a record 107 matches. Király, famous for playing in grey tracksuit bottoms, joined the national team in 1998. He was the goalkeeper of the Hungarian team in all four matches during the Euro 2016 championships this June.
During a career spanning 24 years, he played in such teams as England’s Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Aston Villa, Burnley and Fulham, and Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen and 1860 München.
Last summer Király returned to his hometown Szombathely, where he said he would continue to play.
He has been voted best goalkeeper in Bundesliga, received Hungary’s Golden Ball prize five times and was voted Hungary’s best soccer player twice.
