Several pieces of legislation relating to transport are being amended in order to bring the Hungarian legal system up to speed in the wake of fast-paced changes in the industry.

One such change concerns the long-awaited regulation of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones. The draft legislation relies on the German model and proposes a transparent and foreseeable regulation in classifying drones by size and outlining the basic terms of their use. Requirements on persons using such unmanned aerial vehicles are also contained in the provisions.

As has been noted by the state-secretariat of transport policy, a total revision of the regulation on public roads had become inevitable, and it was completed by the end 2016. Many rules have been simplified, while new provisions have also been adopted.

Among the rules is the application of rubberized asphalt, which constructors had been allowed to use before only at individual requests. Rubberized asphalt is becoming more widespread as shown by 2016 statistics. This year contractors laid down nearly 39,000 tons of it under the so-called Complex Road Renovation program. The rules paving the way for the relevant ministerial decree are bound to make the use of the material even more frequent.

László Tasó, state secretary of transport policy said: “The prepared amendments can give a boost to transport development, and consequently Hungary will be able to keep the pace with global trends of the sector. Consultation on the ministerial decrees, which are in the works, may start in the near future.”
