Budapest Citadella's Renovation Cost Revealed
The Hungarian cabinet has decided to spend Ft 20 billion on renovating the Citadella atop Buda’s Gellért Hill, according to a resolution published in Magyar Közlöny.

A Museum of Hungarian Freedom Fighters will be created and the Citadella promenade and Citadella fortress will be renovated.

The Citadella building has been deteriorating for more than a century, and a full-scale reconstruction is unavoidable, Napi observed earlier.

Budapest’s Citadel, built as a military fortress on the highest point of the city centre, will undergo a three-year reconstruction, the project’s commissioner said.

The plans for the one-time fortress on Gellért Hill, built by Habsburg Austria following the 1848-49 revolution, include creating a park in the place of a WW2 bunker and a museum commemorating “Hungarian fights for freedom”, says Gergely Fodor.
