Gellért Hill Cable Car Project Gains Support
Kata Tüttő, Budapest’s deputy mayor responsible for city operations, welcomed a recent decision by the government to declare the renovation of the Citadel and the construction of a Gellért Hill cable car a project of national strategic value.

The municipality of Budapest has long been considering the construction of a Gellért Hill cable car, she said yesterday.

The city agrees with the main goals of the project: no tourist buses should be permitted on Gellért Hill, only the minimum level of modification should be implemented, and only the fewest number of trees should be cut down, she added.

The capital is open to implementing the project as a joint state-capital project, without involving private investors, but for this, negotiations need to be held with the Budapest Development Centre to look through the details, Tüttő said.
