In Népszava, István Marnitz finds it sad that the coronavirus emergency is overshadowing environmental considerations. The left-wing commentator thinks that using disposable masks and other protective equipment will harm the environment. Marnitz also criticizes the Hungarian government for helping industry and other sectors that contribute to pollution.

He thinks that in addition to the protection of jobs and the economy, the government should bear in mind long-term environmental sustainability. One of the potential ways to achieve these aims would be to facilitate the consumption of locally produced goods.

Magyar Hírlap’s Károly Lóránt hopes that after the coronavirus emergency, local production chains will become more important in the Hungarian economy. The pro-government economist thinks that the economy will not return to the old system. Lóránt believes that green ideas as well as local production will become more important, even if that will imply lower profits.
