Fun Run Through a Museum & Castle in Budapest's City Park
- 31 Aug 2026 11:24 AM
Held on 20 September, the Liget Experience Run offers expats a completely different running experience from a simple jog in the park.
The 3.5-kilometre route starts at 10:30am from the Great Meadow (Nagyrét) and features 14 adventure points, including a smoke-filled tunnel, foam obstacles and a climb to the rooftop garden of the Museum of Ethnography.
Those looking for a bigger challenge can take on the 7-kilometre course, starting at 1:05pm, with 23 adventure points along the way.
This route weaves through and around some of Városliget’s best-known attractions, including the House of Hungarian Music, the Agricultural Museum, Millennium House and Vajdahunyad Castle.
Expect the unexpected, as challenges include a climbing wall, tunnels, a street-workout section, an articulated bus and an old ambulance. Part of the longer course even takes runners through the moat around Vajdahunyad Castle.
The emphasis is on enjoyment rather than serious competition, making this an appealing option for runners, groups of friends and anyone who likes their exercise with a generous dose of adventure.
So, whether you are a regular runner or simply fancy swapping your usual stroll for something considerably more adventurous, this playful sporty experience offers a special way to experience some of Városliget’s most familiar sights.
Around 3,000 people took part last year, and advance registration is required for the 2026 event.
