2nd Level Heat Warning in Hungary - Thursday to Sunday
- 19 Aug 2026 1:48 PM
A joint statement from the National Centre for Public Health and the National Directorate General for Disaster Management on Wednesday warned that prolonged heat poses a significant health risk, and urged everyone to pay extra attention to their own health and that of their dependents.
They especially warned those attending the celebrations connected to the national holiday on Aug 20 to ensure they have enough drinking water, to use sunscreen, and to wear light, light-coloured clothing, headwear and sunglasses with UV protection.
They also advised avoiding alcohol, high-caffeine drinks, and sugary beverages.
They recommended that during the hottest part of the day, between 11am and 3pm, people should stay in cool places if possible and avoid strenuous physical activity. They also suggested shading homes and ventilating them at night.
