Debrecen Zoo & Amusement Park Open with New Experiences
Life has very much gone on at the Zoo and Amusement Park despite the temporary closure and the past two months of restricted admission.

Recent baby-boomers include red-necked wallaby joeys, common eland calves, a donkey foal, blue peafowl and emu chicks, as well as Manfréd, this year’s member of the penguin nursery, up for a walk with visitors every day.

The Zoo’s first ever female giraffe calf, Zahara, is now off the baby bottle and celebrated her first birthday on World Giraffe Day with the rest of Hungary’s only reticulated giraffe family; visitors who have not seen her since last year will surely be amazed at how much she has grown.

Thanks to dynamic collection growth in the past couple months, the institution is now home to many new residents, including members of species never kept before in Debrecen.

Newcomers include Patagonian maras and a great rhea in the South American section, a pair of young marabou storks at the walk-though Africa Aviary and a long-unprecedented variety of species in a reimagined Duck Pond.

There is more than ever to explore in the exotic Palm and Tropical Houses, with crested and Henkel’s leaf-tailed geckos, Malaysian giant leaf insects and thorny devil stick insects as well as a new nocturnal mixed-species exhibit for Northern lesser galagos and Egyptian fruit bats.

The institution is Hungary’s only zoo to keep the rare maneless zebra, with the arrival of a fine stallion named Kevin who is to be a founder within the future European conservation breeding program.

All generations are sure to find funs and thrills at the Amusement Park, now with 23 attractions including a free-to-use Pallet Maze.

With the addition of a Marabou Stork and an Asiatic Lion Feed, Animals in Action packs a whole day of things to see and, for those seeking an even more unique experience, there are weekly Evening Walks as well as monthly Wristband Weekends and Nights in store.

Committed to offering innovative and environmentally friendly convenience services, Debrecen Zoo and Amusement Park is the first zoo in Hungary to also have digital Annual Passes available online in just a few clicks in addition to one-time Zoo and Amusement Park Passes.

With immense gratitude to its audience for their patience and support in the past months, the institution cannot wait to welcome all new and returning visitors at the heart of Debrecen’s Great Forest.
