Spring Activities With Kids in Budapest Suggested by FirstMed
Rain, rain, go away, come again another day :-) It seems like we can enjoy the outdoors this weekend, so here are some tips on what to do with your kids in Budapest.

As Hungary starts to reopen, there are more and more possibilities for Spring activities. Even though there are galleries that you can visit now (if you have the immunity card), I think we have to enjoy this beautiful weather outside after a year of being locked in our homes.

Exercising and spending time with our friends and family can boost our mood, get us out of a slump, and helps us stay healthy. Also, May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month, so I find it fitting to round up some of the outdoor activities in Budapest.

ELTE Botanical Gardens

The botanical garden of the Eörvös Lóránd University lies in district VIII. It is a true gem of Budapest, which you should visit if you like cacti, orchids, and water lilies. The garden dates back to the 1700s, and it is a „green island” in Budapest’s concrete jungle.

Over 8000 plant species can be found in the park, providing a perfect place to become aware of the meaning of biodiversity.

Stroll along Tóth Árpád Avenue and the Buda Castle

The most beautiful time to visit the Buda Castle is in spring when the cherry trees are blooming on Tóth Árpád Avenue. The trees were planted in the early 2000s.

In the spring we can see many people take pictures of the beautiful scenery. But, of course, we can’t forget about the rest of the Buda Castel with the Fisherman’s Bastion and the view of the Parlament. The Castle is the perfect place for a little walk if we don’t want to leave the city.

Gellért Hill

Citadella is the fortress on top of the Gellért Hill, and it is a UNESCO  World Heritage Site and an emblematic symbol of Budapest. It is located in the 11th district and visible across most of Budapest, and provides a getaway from the busy city.

It is a perfect place to visit with children because it’s just a small hike and has many playgrounds to release all of their energy.

These playgrounds include the Slide Park, which requires a bit of a hike to reach, but it is worth it. It was renovated in 2017. You can also take your kids to Vuk Playground, based on the beloved Hungarian cartoon character.

Of course, playgrounds aren’t everything that Gellért Hill has to offer so that you can enjoy it as an adult as well. You can take a stroll in Philospers’ Garden and take a look at statues of the Prince of Buda and the Princess of Pest. It is also a perfect place to read a book or meet up with friends.

Bike along the Danube

Same as last year, the Pest embankment is closed (between Közraktár utca and Margaret Bridge) off from traffic during the weekend to provide a nice long pathway for cyclists and pedestrians.

From 6 AM on Saturdays to 7 PM on Sundays, you can enjoy the promenade.

Even if you don’t have a bike, you can rent a BUBI bike at almost every bridge or metro station in the city and bike to the embankment. It also provides a perfect place to teach your kids how to ride a bike or enjoy this time with your friends and family.

Biking to Margaret Island and then enjoying a little picking in the park is a perfect plan for a Saturday, in my opinion.
