Refugee Camp Opens at Balaton Resort for Ukrainian Jews
The Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH) and the Association of Ukrainian Jewish Communities has opened a refugee camp for religious Jews in Balatonőszöd, at Lake Balaton.

In April, Ukrainian and Hungarian Jewish organisations requested the government’s help in opening a camp for hundreds of Ukrainian refugees at the 180,000sqm government resort at Balatonőszöd, which had lain unused for several years, EMIH said in a statement.

The two Jewish groups partially renovated the resort and are fundraising to pay for more renovations and a temporary expansion, when it will be fit to accommodate 644 people once completed. Facilities will include kosher kitchens and classrooms for children.
