Hotels Are Inflating Prices for UEFA Football Final in Budapest, Confirms GVH
Accommodation providers are colluding to raise prices for May 31, 2023 when UEFA’s Europa League football final will be played in Budapest, the competition authority GVH said.

It said market participants have formulated suggestions for a uniform increase or unification of the prices in the closed groups dealing with accommodation services on “the largest social media platform”, presumably Facebook.

As the match may attract 40,000-44,000 visitors, accommodation providers have suggested that the normal daily prices for this period be significantly increased to at least €100-120 for four people per night and €60-72 for two people in a room.

The GVH warned that such co-ordinated and controlled behaviour can be classified as price fixing, which is one of the most serious violations of competition law.
