WhiskyNet Insight: "Spice Up the Festive Season with Some Delicious Rum Cocktails"
The really cold winter weather has just arrived in Hungary. These days we tend to stay inside in our warm and cosy homes.

The Holiday Season is just around the corner, but you don’t have to skip your favourite cocktails! We would like to share some nice, heart-warming rum cocktails with you to enjoy with your loved ones in this Festive Season.

Chairman’s Reserve rum from Saint Lucia

By using our imagination, let’s hop on a plane and fly to the Caribbean, to the island of Saint Lucia. St. Lucia's Finest Rum, Chairman's Reserve, is as iconic as the Piton Mountains which adorn its bottle. Pour a glass and you'll be instantly transported to the gorgeous palm-fringed beaches, miles of lush rainforest, and lively nightlife full of tradition and culture which embody Saint Lucia.

Christmas wouldn't be a festive holiday in St. Lucia without sorrel! This delicious tradition dates back hundreds of years, and perfectly emulates the flavours of the holiday season! Check out this amazing sorrel recipe below:

  • 500g dried sorrel

  • Bring water to a boil. Pour boiled water over the sorrel, sugar, and spices. Allow mixture to cool. Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight.

  • Strain mixture through cheesecloth and return liquid to a bowl. Strain punch once more and return to bowl.

  • Add Chairman's Reserve Spiced rum (as much as you wish) and enjoy!

Rhum Clément from Martinique

The history of Rhum Clément starts in 1887 when Homère Clément purchased the prestigious 43-hectare sugar plantation, Domaine de L'Acajou, and pioneered Rhum Agricole, a contemporary style of pure rum made directly from fresh free-run sugarcane juice. In 1923 Homère’s son, Charles Clément took over the business. It was Charles Clément who first bottled Rhum Agricole in Martinique and branded it after his father, the founder of Rhum Clément.

Rhum Clément has several different rums in its portfolio: Première Canne is unique white rum created from fresh pressed sugarcane juice. Créole Shrubb is a superb blend of the finest white and aged Rhum Agricole, married with macerated Créole spices and sun-bleached bitter orange peels and pulp. Check out an exquisite Creole Sidecar recipe below:

  • 60ml Clément V.S.O.P. Dark Rum

  • 30ml Clément Créole Shrubb

  • 20ml of fresh lemon juice

  • Lemon - peel, for garnish

  • Shake rum, orange liqueur and lemon juice with ice in a cocktail shaker.

  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass with partially sugared rim.

  • Garnish with a lemon twist.

Arcane Extraroma, a rum from Mauritius

For more than two centuries, Mauritius is known as one of the best lands in the world to produce sugar cane and rum. The balance between climate, relief and nature of the soil is just ideal! From the coast to the mountains, the long green shoots of sugar cane invade the landscape.

Arcane is offering to both beginners and connoisseurs a unique degustation moment reminding the warm welcoming of this paradise of the Indian Ocean. Arcane Extraroma with exotic flavours was made with the idea to create a very aromatic pure sugar cane juice rum. You will be surprised by its powerful tropical fruits boosted by a hint of vanilla coming from the oak barrels. Try this Hot Buttered Rhum recipe below:

  • 50ml Arcane Extraroma Rum

  • 10ml sugar syrup

  • 5g butter

  • 120ml boiling water - 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 nutmeg

Pour the sugar syrup, rum and boiling water into a glass. Add the butter, the cinnamon stick and grate the equivalent of a pinch of nutmeg. Stir for a few seconds and enjoy!
