New Police Scandal: More Border Guards Detained for Corruption in Hungary

Debrecen prosecutors have ordered the detention of five border guards and two civilians suspected of accepting bribes and other crimes committed in a criminal organisation, it was announced.

Evidence indicates that police committed acts of corruption regularly while on duty by taking bribes from those crossing the Hungary-Romania border station at Ártánd near Oradea and then divided the collected cash amongst themselves.

Following an earlier stage of the investigation, the Military Council of the Debrecen Court ordered criminal supervision for two persons and the arrest of a further 16 officers.
