Burglars’ Favourite Districts in Budapest Revealed

The Second, Fifth, Sixth and Ninth Districts are the areas of Budapest favoured most by burglars, according to police data.
A total of 402 burglaries were reported in Budapest in the first half of the year, down from 444 burglaries in the same period of last year.
Contrary to expectations and stereotypes, the Eighth District is not the favourite place for burglars as they prefer the more affluent environment, police said.
An experienced thief can open a weak lock in 15 seconds but a survey by the National Criminology Institute shows that even a simple bar can be a deterrent.
Summer is the preferred season for burglars as many properties remain empty in the warmer months.
At this time an alarm system, a “Beware of the dog” sign, a so-called TV simulator or a motion-sensitive light could be handy at a house, Index writes.
