Romania Overtakes Hungary in GDP Per Capita
Romania’s per capita GDP, calculated at purchasing power parity, stood at 76.7% of the EU average in 2022, surpassing the 76.6% figure for Hungary, according to final figures released by Eurostat on Thursday.

Hungary’s GDP per capita has gained 8.5 percentage points from 68.1% of the EU average in 2013, but Romania’s progress has been even faster, rising from 54.6% in 2013.

The respective figures in 2021 were 74.8% for Hungary and 73.8% for Romania.

There are now only five countries in the EU with lower GDP per capita than Hungary: Latvia, Croatia, Slovakia, Greece and Bulgaria.

Recent trends suggest that Hungary may soon be also overtaken by Latvia and Croatia, Portfolio adds.
