“Mini-Dubai” Plan in Budapest Cancelled
State railway company MÁV has decided to cancel the public procurement process for the Rákosrendező development area in the 14th District, citing resource constraints.

Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár last week outlined ten commitments aimed at improving MÁV Group services, which require significant resources.

As a result, he said, remediation, demolition, and waste removal activities will not take place, and the development area, separate from railway operations, will probably be sold as-is.

MÁV had announced a Ft 14 billion tender, for the Rákosrendező site in the summer of 2024, with plans to transform it into a luxury district akin to Dubai.

The development was linked to Arab developers, known for their work on the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai, with expectations that work might have commenced as early as September.
