M1 Expansion Underway in Hungary - Smart Lane & Completion Dates Revealed
The expansion of Hungary's M1 motorway to three lanes started on September 1, the Construction and Transportation Ministry and the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Company (MKIF) just confirmed.

A 78km stretch of the M1, between the junction with the M0 ring around the capital and exit 94, will be expanded to three lanes

- plus one smart lane that can be opened to traffic to reduce congestion.

The stretch between the M0 and exit 39 is set to be completed by the end of August 2028. The rest of the stretch will be finished one year later.

MKIF is undertaking the project based on a concession contract with credit and its own resources, it added.
