New Home Builds Fall but Permit Issues Rise in Hungary
New home builds slipped, but permits issued for residential construction climbed in Q1-Q3 from the same period a year earlier, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show.

The number of new homes handed over nationwide fell 14.0pc to 7,490. Home completions in the capital dropped 9.1pc to 2,509. The number declined 33.0pc to 1,137 in county seats and cities with populations over 50,000, but edged up 1.5pc at 2,256 in smaller cities. In Hungary's smallest settlements, the number fell 21.7pc to 1,588.

Detached homes accounted for 50pc of completions. Homes in buildings with multiple dwellings made up 39pc of the total and homes in residential parks 8pc.

The average new home size was 94.7sqm.

The share of homes built by businesses stood at 65pc.

The data show 968 homes were demolished or condemned.

The number of home building permits issued jumped 37.1pc to 19,947. The number of permits issued for homes in the capital was 7,841, 131.2pc more than a year earlier. The number issued for homes in county seats and cities with populations over 50,000 increased 42.6pc to 4,419.

The number issued in smaller cities edged down 1.0pc to 4,294. In the country's smallest settlements, the number of home building permits issued slipped 8.8pc to 3,393.
