Netflix in Hungary Gets More Expensive
Netflix is increasing its monthly subscription fees in Hungary by more than 10%, according to notifications sent to customers this week. This marks the streaming giant's first local price adjustment since the autumn of 2024, reflecting a broader global trend of rising costs for digital entertainment.

While Netflix originally launched in Hungary back in 2016 at much lower entry points, the platform has steadily evolved its pricing tiers to account for local market changes and its massive investment in original content.

The New Pricing Structure

The price hike affects all three primary tiers, as well as the "extra member" fee for those sharing accounts outside their household:

Basic Plan: Rising from HUF 2,900 to HUF 3,200.
Standard Plan: Rising from HUF 4,000 to HUF 4,500.
Premium Plan: Rising from HUF 5,100 to HUF 5,700.
Guest User Fee: The cost for adding an extra member will climb from HUF 1,200 to HUF 1,400.

Timeline for Subscribers

Existing subscribers should keep an eye on their inboxes, as the new rates are expected to take effect starting with the April billing cycle. However, the updated pricing is already live for any new customers signing up for the service as of late March.

Why the Increase?

The company typically attributes these adjustments to the need for continued investment in high-quality programming and technology. For the Hungary market, this often includes increasing the library of Hungarian-subtitled and dubbed content, which has grown significantly since the localized interface launched.

Insider Tip:

If the new prices are pushing your monthly budget, remember that Netflix allows you to "downgrade" your plan at any time through your account settings. If you don't require 4K streaming or multiple simultaneous screens, switching from Premium to Standard can offset the cost of the hike.
