Why Child Protection Law in Hungary Violates EU Legislation - CJEU
The decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union has made it clear that the so-called child protection law in reality aimed at inciting hate on a systemic level, Mayor Gergely Karacsony said on Facebook, commenting on the CJEU decision issued on Tuesday.

"While Fidesz has degraded the child protection system both financially and morally and harbored and excused monsters, it has created an enemy out of sexual minorities purely for political gain. Because children didn’t really matter to them — only their own power," Karacsony said.

"Human dignity, to which everyone is equally entitled, has triumphed!" Karacsony said.

Karacsony called the ruling "historic", saying that it was the first to find a member state guilty of violating the EU's fundamental principles directly. "It is the shame of the Orban government, not Hungary's, that that happened to us."

Karacsony welcomed that the EU "does not have to settle this matter as Hungarian voters have overwhelmingly rejected this cynical regime that exploits children solely for its own political ends just a week ago."

"As I said at the Pride March nearly a year ago: how could love and freedom ever be banned? Either we are free together, or none of us are,"
he said.

"I am curious to see whether the Prosecutor's Office which brought charges against me [for organising last year's Pride March] will now drop the charges ... or wait until they are humiliated in court," Karacsony concluded.
