Crypto Trading Rules in Hungary Relaxed
Hungary's Parliament has approved legislation removing a validation requirement for crypto-asset exchanges, simplifying the regulatory framework and bringing it into line with European Union rules.

The amendment was passed on Tuesday with 143 votes in favour, 46 against, and one abstention.

The change eliminates a domestic validation requirement that was found to be incompatible with the EU's harmonised approach to regulating crypto-assets.

By removing the provision, Hungary aims to ensure its legal framework is consistent with European standards while reducing unnecessary administrative barriers for crypto service providers.

The move comes as EU member states continue implementing the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which establishes a common rulebook for the crypto industry across the bloc.

MiCA is designed to create greater legal certainty for businesses, strengthen consumer protection, and make it easier for licensed crypto firms to operate across EU countries under a unified regulatory regime.

For crypto exchanges and other digital asset service providers operating in Hungary, the legislative change should simplify compliance by removing a national requirement that duplicated or conflicted with EU legislation.

While the amendment eases one aspect of the regulatory process, companies offering crypto services in Hungary must still comply with the full range of EU requirements, including licensing, anti-money laundering measures, operational resilience standards and customer protection rules.

Overall, the amendment is intended to ensure Hungarian legislation remains compatible with EU law while supporting a predictable regulatory environment for financial innovation and digital asset markets.

The decision to relax these rules reflects the continuing evolution of cryptocurrency regulation across Europe, as policymakers seek to balance innovation with safeguards for investors and the wider financial system.
