This year's event is built around the idea of the market as the “heart of the city” - not simply a place to shop, but a meeting point and community space where local producers, traders and shoppers come together.

A central theme will be market breakfasts, highlighting the lively morning atmosphere traditionally associated with markets. Visitors can expect fresh ingredients, local producers, and opportunities to enjoy varied breakfasts while discovering the character of each market.

In Budapest, 15 markets and market halls are participating, including the Central Market Hall, Lehel Market Hall, Fény Street Market, Rákóczi Square Market Hall, Hunyadi Square Market and Teleki Square Market.

The programme also extends to the Batthyány Square, Bosnyák Square, Fehérvári Road and Kórház Street market halls, as well as venues including Flórián Square, Tétényi Road and City Hall Park.

Budapest venues will all have their own programmes, for instance Lehel Market will host a special musical market breakfast with chef and food writer Zsófi Mautner, while the Central Market Hall will feature a market atmosphere, photo exhibition and guided walks. 

Rákóczi Square Market will combine its market breakfast with a choir festival, and Hunyadi Square Market will focus on sustainability. At Teleki Square Market, visitors can explore the cuisines of five different nations.

Outside Budapest, participating markets include those in Esztergom, Győr, Hévíz, Kaposvár, Komló, Körmend, Pécs, Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg.

Nationwide, the markets will offer their own unique activities, and opening times, with all giving visitors the chance to browse stalls, sample local produce and discover the distinctive flavours and products of different parts of Hungary.

Programmes in the countryside include harvest-themed events, live cooking events, free concerts, exhibitions, meetings with local producers, guided walks and activities for families.

This nationwide initiative was first organised in 2023 by the Cooperation Forum of Market Halls and Markets. This year's edition brings together more participating venues than in previous years, giving expats an opportunity to explore Hungary's range of markets while experiencing a variety of food, traditions and community in different parts of the country.
