Following the success of its first two editions, this year’s festival expands its programme to 45 films, including new work by Hungarian directors László Nemes and Lili Horvát, as well as some of the most notable titles presented at Cannes, Venice and Sundance this year.

Over the past two years, BIFF has established itself as one of Budapest’s cultural meeting points, bringing together audiences interested in discovering some of the year’s most talked-about international films.

The festival also provides opportunities to meet filmmakers and take part in conversations around contemporary cinema, making it a place where audiences can engage with what is happening in film beyond the screenings themselves.

The first six films announced for this year already give a sense of the breadth of the programme. They include László Nemes’s historical drama, Lili Horvát’s love story with elements of science fiction, Radu Jude’s social satire, Jane Schoenbrun’s queer horror-comedy, John Wilson’s inventive documentary and Marine Atlan’s coming-of-age story. Together, they reflect the range of films that will feature across this year’s BIFF programme.
