Time Names Magyar Among 'World's Most Influential Rising Stars'
US weekly Time magazine has listed Prime Minister Peter Magyar on its list of the 100 most influential "rising stars" of 2026.

Writing about the prime minister, Ian Bremmer, the magazine’s foreign affairs editor, says that Magyar’s rise to power offers Hungary an opportunity to close the illiberal chapter of its history. He argues that it demonstrates that people and institutions, the rule of law and democracy are more powerful than any one individual.

He said that the authoritarian-leaning system of Viktor Orbán, the previous prime minister, “posed a threat not only to Hungary, but to the identity of the European Union as a whole.”

“At a time when eurosceptic and populist voices are gaining strength, Magyar’s landslide victory is the clearest pro-European political outcome of the post-Brexit era,” Bremmer wrote.

The author also points out that although Magyar is himself a conservative politician who comes from Fidesz and has concerns about immigration, he differs sharply from Orbán in wanting to end corruption and restore state institutions that were weakened during Orbán’s time in office.

The magazine’s list features 100 people in total, including Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, American writer Caro Claire Burke, US Republican Senator Katie Britt, Japanese politician Kavata Soko, and Pavan Kumar Chandana, one of the founders of Indian space company Skyroot, who is sometimes described as “India’s Elon Musk.”
