Celebrated Georgian Royal National Ballet Returning to Hungary

A Millennium of Tradition and Athleticism
Georgian dance is one of the oldest folk traditions in the world, with archaeological evidence tracing its origins back to the second millennium BC. The Royal National Ballet’s current production serves as a synthesis of this ancient history and contemporary stagecraft.
The performance is renowned for its physical intensity and sharp contrasts:
Male Dancers: Known for high-velocity leaps and gravity-defying maneuvers, often involving the spectacular use of real blades and daggers.
Female Dancers: Offer a striking counterpoint with a gliding elegance and intricate, flowing costumes that emphasize poise and grace.
Artistic Leadership
The company is led by Artistic Director Gela Potskhishvili, an honorary member of the Georgian National Academy and one of the country's most celebrated choreographers. Potskhishvili is credited with modernizing traditional Georgian dance for global audiences while maintaining the authentic "Georgian soul" that makes the performance unique.
International Acclaim
The production has garnered glowing reviews from global media. The New York Times described the troupe’s energy as having "such force and passion that the audience's hearts beat in time with them," while the Berlin Journal noted the "fire and energy" that consistently results in multi-minute standing ovations.
The Budapest Performance
The highlight of the 2026 tour will be the Budapest show, held at the Riz Levente Sportcsarnok. Given that every stop of the previous tour was a complete sell-out, organizers are encouraging fans of world music and dance to secure tickets early.
Event Details:
Location: Riz Levente Sportcsarnok, Budapest - 1173 Budapest, Pesti út 86
Date: November 25, 2026.
What to expect: A high-energy cultural experience featuring live music, period costumes, and world-class choreography.
Insider Tip: The Riz Levente Sportcsarnok is a modern venue located in the Rákosmente area. If you are traveling from the city center, it is advisable to check transit schedules in advance or arrange for a taxi, as the venue sits on the eastern edge of the capital.
Have you ever witnessed the "flying" dancers of Georgia? This is a rare opportunity to see one of the world's most athletic dance troupes right here in Hungary.
