Cinco de Mayo is observed in Mexico as a national holiday, and is celebrated throughout the world with various festivals and parties, including here in Hungary outside Iguana Bar Budapest.
Way back on 5 May 1862 a small poorly equipped Mexican army managed to defeat the invading French army, which was considered to be the best in the world at the time.
Although Mexico eventually lost the war, the unlikely victory near Puebla came to symbolize a Mexican David defeating a French Goliath.
