Brigitta Markovics, Managing Director of Nouba
After four years in Paris, I recently returned to Budapest to prepare the launch of Nouba, an event staffing firm, in Hungary. Nouba provides hostesses for corporate events, promotional sales campaigns and the hospitality industry.

1. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Székesfehérvár, a city 60km from Budapest.

2. If you could be an expat anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
I have had the privilege to live in several European cities (Paris, Lisbon, London), but I would choose somewhere faraway, Mexico or Australia.

3. What would you miss most if you moved away from Hungary?
My family and friends.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Budapest has so much to offer! I believe the best way to discover a city is by foot, so I would recommend they stroll through the center of Pest, to discover the architecture, appreciate the history, and enjoy the hospitality of the many cafés. By night, the city is magical.

5. What is your favorite food?
Any kind of seafood, I love it! From the Hungarian cuisine, my favorite would be a dessert: the famous zserbó szelet.

6. What is your favorite sport / form of exercise?
Scuba diving, every opportunity I get. For many years, I took part in triathlons. It is extremely demanding and physically arduous but a beautiful discipline that teaches you to push yourself to your limits, then to exceed them.

7. What is your favorite place in Hungary?
The beauty of the Balaton, namely the northern shore. It is quieter and more preserved than the crowded southern vacation destinations.

8. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I would love to work with/make music. My father was a musician, and music has been an important part of my daily life growing up. However, I acknowledge how difficult and how much sacrifice it requires.

9. What’s a job you would definitely never want?
Although I have great respect for their profession, I couldn’t be a surgeon. The sight of blood would be difficult to bear.

10. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Visiting friends on the Costa del Sol, in southern Spain.

11. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
I’ll be heading to New York soon, a city full of energy, creativity and diversity. A great place to get inspired!

12. What was your favorite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
As a teenager, like most girls, I was a devoted Madonna fan, and overheated my VHS-player watching Dirty Dancing over and over…

13. Apart of temptation what can’t you resist?
My daughter’s smile (and she knows it!).

14. Red wine or white?
Obviously, it would depend on the meal. If I had to choose, a red wine, I am fond of Bourgogne (aka “Burgundy”) wines.

15. Book or movie?
Difficult to choose. When I have time to put my feet up (with a glass of that red wine), I love to read a good book. That said, I always enjoy going to the cinema with friends.

16. Morning person or night person?
Having a young family has made me de facto a morning person, although I have always been attracted by the mystery of the night.

17. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Something we tend to take for granted: clean drinking water. 780 million people lack access to clean water, approximately 1 out of 9 people on this planet.

18. Buda or Pest side?
I have lived on both, but I prefer Pest, where I currently reside. I have been lucky to find the best of both worlds, quiet and green, yet minutes away from downtown, without the hassle of crossing the river during rush hour.

19. Which achievement in your life are you most pleased about?
Motherhood.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Life is not about milestones, but about moments.
