Low cost airline Wizz Air is asking Malév Ground Handling to stop outsourcing the checking of cabin baggage at Budapest’s international airport, as the subcontractor Budport is taking too strict an approach. Wizz Air passengers are complaining that baggage is being rejected if it is only slightly oversized.

German airline Lufthansa has cancelled seven flights leaving and seven arriving in Budapest on Tuesday after the pilots union expanded its strike that began on Monday to include international flights. Four Budapest flights were cancelled on Monday.

The new luxury train called the Golden Eagle Danube Express departed from Budapest yesterday on its maiden journey, bound for Tehran. The train left Nyugati station with 70 passengers on board for the nearly 7,000km, 13-day trip.

The commercial airport in Pér, 15km from Gyor, has opened after a Ft 6.6 billion investment to make it accessible to such large aircraft as Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s. The runway was enlarged and widened to 2,030 metres from 1,450 and other features were revamped.

The body responsible for the development of the city concentrated mainly on the reconstruction of the Pest side, the Castle that rather looked like a fortress seemed untouched.
