The international community in Hungary came together last Friday to raise HUF 1.5 million for charity - over twice the amount donated on the 5th of November last year.

"Staying in Hungary is completely safe, experts reassure travellers to Budapest. The rupture of the red sludge reservoir in Hungary has caused a localised emergency situation afflicting three villages 160 km from the capital, Budapest. The dam burst poses no threat at all to anyone planning to travel to Budapest or stay elsewhere in Hungary.

"The British Embassy together with the Raoul Wallenberg Association organised a ceremony on 15 October at which a plaque was unveiled commemorating the courageous efforts of Raoul Wallenberg. The Swedish diplomat gave shelter for Hungarian Jews in the building of the British Embassy (Hazai Bank at that time).

According to a survey of OECD, Hungarians’ basic skills that are necessary for work have been improved significantly in the past ten years. Also, the study shows that Hungarian women outperform men in reading, counting, and critical thinking.
